Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 x 6oz tomato paste
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp salt divided
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 tbsp chopped parsley divided
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 lb mozzarella sliced
  • 3/4 cup grated parmesan

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Wooden spoon
  • Saucepan
  • foil

Method
 

  1. In a skillet, cook sausage, beef, onion, garlic until browned.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, paste, sauce, water, sugar, basil, seasoning, salt, pepper, parsley. Simmer 30 min.
  3. Boil noodles 8-10 min. Drain and rinse.
  4. Mix ricotta, egg, rest of salt, parsley.
  5. In baking dish: spread 1.5 cups sauce, layer noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce, repeat twice. Top with parmesan and mozzarella.
  6. Cover, bake 25 min at 375°F. Remove foil, bake 25 min more. Cool 15 min before serving.

Notes

Substitutions & Variations—Swap sausage for turkey, use veggie crumbles, or add spinach.
Storage & Scaling—Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze. Recipe can be doubled for a crowd.
Cooking Tips—Let rest 15 min before slicing for neat portions.
